Lymphedema & Lipoedema Management

Targeted therapy for swelling, circulation, and mobility.

Targeted therapy to reduce swelling, support circulation, and restore confident movement

Living with lymphedema or lipoedema can be physically painful and emotionally challenging. These chronic conditions often cause persistent swelling, heaviness, and discomfort especially in the arms, legs, or lower body. At our Camp Hill physiotherapy and Pilates clinic, we offer compassionate, effective treatment plans designed to help you manage symptoms, regain mobility, and improve your quality of life.

Whether you’re recovering from cancer treatment, managing a hereditary condition, or dealing with long-standing fluid retention, our expert team uses an integrated approach that combines manual therapy, physical therapy, and exercise therapy to support your lymphatic system and keep you moving with confidence.

Manual Therapy: Stimulate Drainage and Reduce Fluid Retention

Manual therapy plays a crucial role in lymphedema and lipoedema care. We use manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that stimulates the lymphatic system and encourages excess fluid to move away from congested areas. This specialised massage is proven to reduce swelling, relieve discomfort, and enhance immune function.

For clients with lipoedema, we combine MLD with myofascial release and soft tissue therapy to reduce pressure, ease pain, and improve tissue mobility in affected areas.

Physical Therapy: Support Your Circulation and Joint Mobility

Our physiotherapists are trained to provide targeted support for mobility and circulation, helping you maintain independence and reduce complications like fibrosis or cellulitis. We may use joint mobilisation, compression advice, kinesiology taping, or even acupuncture to reduce inflammation and improve comfort in swollen limbs.

Your treatment plan is always tailored to your needs, whether you're in the early stages of swelling or have long standing symptoms. We also educate you on self management techniques, skin care, and appropriate use of compression garments for lasting results.

Exercise Therapy: Move Confidently Without Worsening Swelling

Exercise is essential in managing lymphedema and lipoedema but it must be done the right way. Our clinical Pilates and gentle rehab programs focus on low impact movement that stimulates the lymphatic system, strengthens surrounding muscles, and supports healthy circulation without overloading sensitive tissues.

We guide you through exercises that improve posture, joint stability, and core strength, which are often compromised due to fluid buildup or altered gait patterns. These sessions are designed to be supportive and empowering so you feel more capable and confident in your body again.

We Help With:

  • Primary and secondary lymphedema (e.g., post-cancer treatment)

  • Lipoedema affecting the legs, hips, arms, or abdomen

  • Swelling after surgery, injury, or lymph node removal

  • Chronic fluid retention or heaviness in the limbs

  • Tissue fibrosis or discomfort due to fluid buildup

  • Joint and muscle pain caused by structural changes

You don’t have to manage lymphedema or lipoedema alone. With the right support, education, and care, it is possible to live with less pain, less swelling, and more ease in your body.
